NYF&C Supports Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is DVA Month

Updated Friday October 19, 2018 by Wally Haddick.

Since 1969 Newtown Youth Football & Cheer has strived to make a difference in the lives of young athletes and in the community.  It follows a mission of Safety, Fun, and Character and looks to engage our athletes, parents, and extended family in making a difference both on the field and off – as individuals and as a team.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.  The NYF&C in association with Shoreline Youth Football & Cheerleading Conference and The CENTRE of Newtown will be supporting raising awareness and education on Sunday, October 21st, by wearing purple socks during their games.  We encourage our extended family to wear purple as well in support.

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, Domestic Violence affects more than 12 million people per year.  Abusive behavior can also include verbal threats, stalking and other violence.

We realize that the topic is sensitive particularly for athletes and children under a certain age.  The NYF&C will not be fundraising during the event nor discussing any specific details with your child.  We leave that to the discretion of the parents.  Our objective is to raise awareness of this important issue and help educate our community on the resources available for people in need.  Safety.  Fun.  Character.

If you or someone you know is being abused, support and help are available. Visit https://www.thehotline.org/ or call 1-800-799-7233.  Or learn more at these organizations or others online.  NYF&C has no affiliation with any of these organizations.
